I think there is a passage in Romans that beautifully sums up the direction and atmosphere of my life right now. Several years back, during the time leading up to my decision to stay in Ukraine permanently: I struggled, wrestled, prayed. But when the moment of the decision came, it was easy. Because I care for this country and these people; and I want to continue ministering and evangelizing, as long as I have breath. Besides, this place has become my home more than any other. My wife is a native. My daughter was born here soon. I feel more alien in America than in Ukraine!
Now we as a family feel called to step out and further fulfill the great commission, expanding the Kingdom of God; we know that it is here in Ukraine. We know it is far away from the comfort of the capital. We are excited and we also feel helpless. We seek guidance and wisdom. We wrestle, struggle and pray. We know our calling, it's the details that are fuzzy.
Sometimes, it frightens me a bit and I want to stay in the comfortable life and ministry of the last 6 and a half years. But Jesus called me to follow Him. So, I feel a little like Jesus' disciples in John 6. After many left Jesus he turned to his close ones and said: "And you also." They answered: "Lord where else can we go? You alone have the words of life, and we believe you are the holy one of God!" Where will we move? What are our plans? We feel called to plant churches. We feel God leading us western Ukraine, and maybe the Trans-Carpathian region. But it doesn't matter. We will follow Him, our feet will bring the good news.
The same Lord is Lord of all & richly blesses all who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed i, & how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard; & how can they hear without someone preaching to them; & how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! ~ Romans 10:12-15
